Tata Steel Europe (formerly Corus) is Europe's second-largest steel producer. It supplies steel and related services to the construction, automotive, packaging, engineering and other sectors worldwide. Corus was acquired by Tata Steel in April 2007 and made the Tata Steel group the world's sixth largest steel producer with a total crude steel production capacity of around 28 million tonnes and over 82,000 employees across four continents. It is the second most globally diversified steel group. Tata Steel Europe has major integrated steel plants in the UK and the Netherlands, as well as a mini-mill operation in Rotherham. In the UK, the company operates numerous downstream facilities, including rolling mills, tube mills and processing and distribution centres. Tata Steel Europe makes flat products (hot and cold rolled carbon steel coil, plate, and metallic and organic coated sheet, and electrical steels), long products (including sections, wire rod, narrow strip and engineering steels) and various kinds of tubular products. The company also runs a large distribution business, which operates as a link between Tata Steel Europe’s manufacturing operation and its customers. |
